good popular music
« on: February 23, 2005, 07:57:02 pm »
I gave up on popular music around 8th grade, but was wondering if there is now any good popular music. I listened to just about every genre from hip hop to country so im open to anything. Anyway, the last time i turned on MTV 97 degrees topped TRL i think so i was just wonderin if popular is still shit like that or if there is anything good?
Peace is the only thing worth fighting for.

If by popular, you mean the genre pop. From 2003, my favorite pop album was The Postal Service - Give Up. From 2004, I liked Bjork - Medulla. However, if you mean music for the masses, from 2003, Outkast - The Love Below/Speakerboxx was excellent and popular. Since then, I don't know if there was any other new hotness to speak of.

Internet arguments always seem to expose people's lack of humility and grace.

Definetly check out Bjork. I don't recommend her new album Medulla to a first time listener. Try Vespertine. Medulla's not main stream at all; it's so bizarro. It's an all vocal recording. There's alot of beat-boxing and istrumental sounds mimicked by human voice.
Have you heard The Postal Service?
